On December 19, 2020, Emma Alam, representing Pakistan, broke the record by correctly recalling and spelling 218 names and faces at the 29th World Memory Championship. The competition was held in a hybrid format in China and across the globe from December 18 to 20, 2020. Competitors had 15 minutes to memorize as many names and faces as possible, followed by 35 minutes to recall them.

In this contest, participants are given color photographs (head and shoulder shots without backgrounds) with a first and second name printed beneath each picture. Names are assigned randomly to avoid providing clues based on the ethnic origin of the faces.

Emma has participated in numerous national and international memory and mind-mapping championships. She holds the title of World Memory Champion 2020, having achieved the highest accumulated points at that year’s competition.

Emma Alam and her teammate from Futuristic Learning, Syeda Kisa Zehra, both also broke the world record for memorizing fictional dates, a record previously held by India. However, Kisa scored higher than Emma and thus earned the Guinness World Records title.

The 29th World Memory Championships 2020 saw participation from over 300 competitors from 16 countries and regions, including Pakistan, India, China, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Algeria, the United States, Hong Kong (China), Macau (China), Taiwan (China), Libya, Qatar, and Iraq. The competition spanned 10 disciplines over three days.

Founded in 1991 by Tony Buzan and Raymond Keene, the World Memory Championships is a prestigious mind sports tournament that highlights the incredible power of human memory.

Emma expressed her excitement, saying, “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Guinness World Records. I can now say, I am Officially Amazing!”

Emma Alam was trained under the leadership of her coach Sania Alam who is a Super-Learning Master Trainer, 1 of the only 4 in the World Senior Licensed Instructors and the CEO of Futuristic Learning.

In addition to winning the overall championship title, Team Futuristic Learning secured 3 trophies, 15 medals, and broke 4 world records.
